സ്വര്‍ണ വില കുത്തനെ ഉയരുമ്പോള്‍ ഏറ്റവും കൂടുതല്‍ ദുരിതം അനുഭവികുന്നത് ആരാണ് ?അച്ഛനും അമ്മയും ആകാം എന്നാല്‍ പെണ്‍കുട്ടികളും ആയി കൂടെ ?എന്‍റെ ചിന്ത വേറൊരു രീതിയില്‍ ആണ് അതിന് ഞാന്‍ വ്യക്തമായ തെളിവും തരാം.
സ്വര്‍ണ വിലകൂടുന്നത് കൊണ്ടു ഇരുപതു വയസാകുമ്പോള്‍ തന്നെ പെണ്പില്ലെരെ കല്യാണം കഴിച്ചു അയക്കുന്നു.വീട്ടുകാര്‍ക്കറിയാം ഇനി എന്തായാലും സ്വര്‍ണത്തിന്റെ വില കൂടുകയല്ലാതെ കുറയില്ലെന്ന്.ഇപ്പോള്‍ തന്നെ കുടുംബം വിറ്റാണ് ഓരോരുത്തരും പെണ്‍ മക്കളെ കെട്ടിച്ചയക്കുന്നത്.ഇനിയും പെണ്പില്ലെരെ വീട്ടില്‍ വാചോണ്ടിരുന്നാല്‍ ബുദ്ധിമുട്ടാ . അതുകൊണ്ടാണ്‌ ഇന്നത്തെ പെണ്‍ കുട്ടികളുടെ ഉന്നത വിദ്യാഭ്യാസത്തിനു തടസം നില്ക്കുന്ന വിലങ്ങു തടിയാണ് സ്വര്‍ണം എന്ന് ഞാന്‍ പറഞ്ഞത് . ഇന്ത്യയില്‍ സ്വര്‍ണം നമുക്കു നിര്‍ത്തലാക്കാന്‍ നിയമം കൊണ്ടു വരാം .അപ്പോള്‍ എന്നെ പോലുള്ള പെണ്‍ കുട്ടികള്‍ക്ക് പഠിക്കാനും പറ്റും വീട്ടുകാര്‍ക്കും ബുദ്ധിമുട്ടാകില്ല . മാത്രമല്ല സ്വര്‍ണ വില ഇങ്ങനെ കൂടുകയാണെങ്കില്‍ പെണ്‍ ഭ്രൂണഹത്യകള്‍ ഇനിയും കൂടാന്‍ ഇടയുണ്ട് .അതുകൊണ്ട് സ്വര്‍ണമില്ലാത്ത ഒരു നാളെയെ കുറിച്ചു നമുക്കു ചിന്തിക്കാം .

The national theater festival was totally a different experience for me. Visually it was so enriching that it grabbed the attention of everyone. The festival started off with the drama MACBETH that captured the deep concerns and desires in the mind of macbeth. The play was given a new mold by the director. Emotions and conflicts in the mind of the characters are effectively externalized that the audience felt the trauma of the character.The monologues of the characters are also effectively portrayed.

100 yrs of SOLITUDE

One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez tells the story of the
Buendia family and the fictional town of Macondo. The first part of the book's
opening line, "Many years later, as he faced the firing squad, Colonel Aurehano
Buendia was to remember that distant afternoon when his father took him to discover
ice," serves to catapult the reader into the future, while the second phrase pushes the reader into the past. From this point onward, however, the book moves in fairly
straight forward chronological order, with only occasional forays into the past or the future.
In the beginning, the town is young; it is a place where no one is over thirty years old and no one has died yet. Except for occasional visits from Melquiades and his troop of gypsies, the three hundred inhabitants of Macondo are completely isolated from the rest of the world. Although Jose Arcadio leads a band of townspeople on a mission to try to establish contact with the outside world, he is unsuccessful. Later, Ursula sets off to find her son Jose Arcadio, who has unexpectedly run away with the gypsies. Although Ursula does not find her son, she finds a route to another town, connecting Macondo to the world. As a result, people begin to arrive in Macondo, including a governmental representative, Don Apolinar Moscote. Aureliano falls in love with Apolinar's beautiful child, Remedios.

The middle portion of the book includes accounts of the seemingly endless civil wars
and of the activities of Aureliano Segundo and Jose Arcadio Segundo, the twin sons of
the late Arcadio. When the wars are finally over, Colonel Aureliano Buendia retires to his home, where he leads a solitary life making little gold fishes. His solitude increases and he is overcome with nostalgia and memories. After recalling once again the day that his father took him to see ice, he dies.

In the final pages of the novel, Aureliano finally is able to read the manuscripts left by Melquiades years earlier. As he does so, he realizes that what he is reading is the story of his family. As he finishes the text, a giant wind sweeps away the town of Macondo, erasing it from time, space, and memory.

2008 IFFK -an overview

Kerala, the land of God's own country,the land of hills and spectacular arts is going to witness the 13th IFFK festival, which begins on 12th Decmber2008 and ends on 19 thdecember 2008.The IFFK is a film festival held annually in Thiruvananthapuram.The film festival was started in 1996 and is produced by Kerala State Chalachitra Academy on behalf of the Department of Cultural Affairs of the State Government. The well-informed ,serious minded and dignified audience of Kerala is the success of this festival.
Retrospectives of filmmakers this year focus on Fernando Birri legendary Argentinian Director who is also the Chief Guest at the festival this year. This year Mr. Amos Gitai’s truly moving films will be screened. He will deliver the Aravindan Memorial Lecture on the 16th Dec 2008. This collection of films allows viewers a deep insight into the cinematic development of a contemporary auteur and his repertoire. The French New Wave maestro Alain Resnais finds a special place in this festival and each of the films selected are milestones of achievement not only by the director but for cinema itself, opening up the medium to its poetic possibilities. Contemporary filmmakers such as Idrissa Ouedraogo, Samira Makhmalbaf, Fatih Akin, Julio Medem, representing various trends in World Cinema, find a place in the programme. A special section on Indian Masters in Action will showcase the work of some masters of Indian Cinema. Bharatan the Malayalam outré who blazed the screen till the eighties is seen this year as the Malayalam Filmmaker in focus. Homage and Tributes this year have films by Yousiffe Chahine, Jules Dassin, Bharat Gopi, KT Mohammad and others who the world of cinema has lost this year. Contemporary World Cinema will bring the latest films from all over the world. And at last New Malayalam Cinemas from the local film industry. The Short films and Documentaries in film formats bring a select wonderful films from all over the world. Some surely make us realise that expression will have no boundaries in the future.A special attraction of this year’s festival is the Films from Russia in our Country Focus. Workshops and seminars and discussions on various issues in Cinema will as always liven up the IFFK.I'm also eagerly waiting to become a part of this world of Rainbows.
